Macbeth
A play that explores the themes of ambition, guilt, and the corrupting influence of power, we meet Macbeth, the ambitious nobleman whom three witches prophesy will become King of Scotland. Spurred on by the witches’ prediction and the ambition of his wife, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth murders King Duncan to seize the throne. His ascent complete and his destiny fulfilled, he is consumed by guilt and paranoia, descending into tyranny and committing further atrocities to maintain his power. As Macbeth’s reign of terror spirals out of control he faces rebellion, a wife consumed by madness, and the inevitability of his ultimate downfall.
