One of William Shakespeare's best known and most celebrated works, Romeo and Juliet is the timeless tale of a young couple who value their love for each other above all else, and make the ultimate sacrifice for what they believe in.

In a bold new take on the classic tale, Hillbilly Productions has moved the location of the story, taking the characters and rich verse of the Bard and placed them in a vibrant, barren plain of the African Savannah. 

With bold and primal tones brought squarely to the surface, the war between the Montagues and Capulets has never been more real or intense. Combining contemporary costume, dance, tribal music and Shakespeare's iconic text, this riveting production will impress theatreaudiences young and old alike.

Creatives Matt Hillman Matt Hillman
Director
Matt has been a part of the Melbourne Theatre scene for as long as he can remember, appearing in countless productions across Melbourne (and regional Victoria) and is an experienced actor, singer, writer and director.

He has played a multitude of roles, including Max Bialystock in The Producers, Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music, The Engineer in Miss Saigon, and most recently Bill Sykes in Oliver!.

When not on the stage, Matt is usually behind the scenes, directing, writing or running regular workshops and Drama Courses with Adlib Entertainment. Matt graduated from the VCA in 2008, completing the Foundation Music Theatre course, and now owns and operates his own Company, Hillbilly Productions.
