Coffs Harbour Musical Comedy Company's latest production is ‘Anything Goes’, a riotously funny musical with a great script (by P.G. Wodehouse of Jeeves & Wooster fame), and music and lyrics by the legendary Cole Porter.
The show is set in the 1930s and takes place entirely aboard the ocean liner S. S. American, where famous nightclub singer Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England.
Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, and they are sailing to England to get married.
Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin, and his sidekick, Bonnie. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing girls, a crew of sailors, and good old- fashioned blackmail, Reno and Moonface join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.
It’s a fast-paced, high-energy show, with veteran director Brian Fitzsimmons at the helm, ably supported by Judi Williams (Director, ‘The King and I’), and the musical and choreography team behind ‘Hairspray’.
‘Anything Goes’ sets sail at the Jetty Memorial Theatre from May 8th – 31st.
