What if Hamlet, Shakespeare's greatest tragedy, had happened on a ship?
The captain of the family merchant ship The Gertrude has been poisoned, and his brother Claudius has assumed the helm. The dead captain's grieving son, Hamlet suspects Claudius is the murderer, and seeks revenge. But killing your uncle is not an easy task - perhaps one that could drive you mad...
Meanwhile, William, an up-and-coming actor, is rescued from a life-raft, and organises a play to entertain the crew. But how will Captain Claudius react to the story? In true Shakespearean style, there are sword-fights, soliloquies, ghosts, illicit love-trysts, and spies; it's a world in which the evil get their just desserts - but the good suffer just as much.
