Hysterical satire and slapstick horror are doled out in equal measure in this anarchic puppet show with real actors. In a plot that parodies Shakespeare, the grotesque Ubu is nagged by his awful, scheming wife Ma into eliminating the royal family and seizing the throne, a dastardly plan that is surprisingly successful. As Ubu ruthlessly consolidate his leadership by destroying anyone with power and looting the nation’s wealth, however, the demented duo is threatened with foreign invasion and a revolt led by the surviving heir to the throne.
