Double Delicious
Contemporary Asian Australian Performance presents
Double Delicious

28 Oct 2021 to 30 Oct 2021

Taste and smell evoke deep memories in this unique culinary and theatrical experience as five stellar storyteller-cooks reveal the secrets of dishes significant to their lives.

Kimchi master Heather Jeong tears into a cabbage recalling meeting her father at the age of nine. Writer Benjamin Law brings a Queensland drawl to his hilarious story about growing up in the shadow of the Big Pineapple. Dancer Raghav Handa’s fluid choreography adds pathos to a personal dilemma about the loss of ritual. Adelaide performance maker and Double Delicious director Valerie Berry recalls the culture shock of leaving the Philippines to arrive in Ceduna. And cherished national treasure Elizabeth Chong reveals the beginnings of the famous cooking school that introduced generations of Australians to Chinese food and culture.

Combining stunning visuals from projection and lighting designer Verity Hampson and music by Nicholas Ng, food and performance make a powerful connection to hearts and minds in this immersive work exploring family, longing, loss, resilience and legacy. And best of all, the audience completes the experience of each story by eating the dish that inspired it!

The dishes served may include meat, gluten, preservatives, egg, garlic. Waiters will be able to inform patrons what is contained in each dish when it is served. No alternatives can be added, as the dishes relate directly to the stories.
