Footloose
Bankstown Theatre Company presents
Footloose

30 Apr 2022 to 8 May 2022

Footloose – The Musical premiered on Broadway in 1998 and is based on the 1984 film of the same name, starring Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer and John Lithgow. With music and lyrics by a variety of writers and composers such as Tom Snow, Dean Pitchford and Kenny Loggins, the show includes many well-known hits including the Academy Award-nominated title track, “Footloose”, “Holding Out For a Hero!”, “Let’s Hear It For The Boy” and “Almost Paradise”. The book is by Dean Pitchford and Broadway veteran, Walter Bobbie.
Footloose – The Musical is a tale of teenage rebellion and repression and features a combination of lively rock-style dance hits and heartfelt ballads.
When teenager Ren and his mother Ethel move from big-city Chicago to Bomont, a small Midwestern town, it’s a real case of culture shock. Ren tries his best to fit in, but the streetwise city boy can't quite believe he's living in a place where rock music and dancing are illegal. The one saving grace is Ariel Moore, a troubled but lovely blonde with a jealous boyfriend - and a Bible-thumping minister for a father! Reverend Moore is responsible for keeping the town dance-free, but Ren and his classmates want to do away with this ordinance, especially since the senior prom is around the corner. Only Ren has the courage to initiate a battle to abolish the outmoded ban and revitalize the spirit of the repressed townspeople. He encourages them all to "cut loose!"
