Never Closer
Belvoir St Theatre and Essential Workers presents
Never Closer

25 May 2024 to 16 Jun 2024

Belvoir is proud to bring Never Closer, an astonishing debut play by Grace Chapple in a production direct from 2022’s 25A season upstairs to Belvoir’s mainstage from May 25 to June 16, 2024.

Northern Ireland, 1987. Deirdre is stuck – between arguments, nations, and the lives she almost lived. But when her old school friends gather in her kitchen yet again for Christmas Eve, their growing differences push to the surface a powder-keg, waiting the tiniest spark. And then one of them turns up with her surprise fiancé.

He’s English.

Set against the backdrop of The Irish Troubles, this multi-award nominated play (Griffin, Rodney Seaborn & Theatre503 International Playwriting, Shane and Cathryn Brennan Prize) from emerging playwright Grace Chapple, is a tender exploration of love, forgiveness, home, and whether we choose to stay or go.
