Tony Turner was the Ethel Tory Head of Drama at the ANU. He is the recipient of the Italian Ministry of Culture Bronze medal for Theatre, the Canberra Critics Circle award for Best Actor, three CAT awards and was the Artistic Director of papermoon at the ANU where his directing credits include Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra, Peter Shaffer's Equus, and Amadeus for which he won a CAT award for best production. He trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London and was the London manager of Walt Disney Productions between 1973 and 1976. In 2016 and 2017 he was the chief adjudicator for the Chinese Universities Shakespeare Festival in Hong Kong. His directing credits for Canberra Repertory include Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan, George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, Alan Bennett's The Madness of King George, Oliver Goldsmith's She Stoops to Conquer and Pinero's Trelawney of the Wells. His acting credits in Australia include Shakespeare's King Lear, Vladimir in Waiting for Godot, Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman, Brutus in Julius Caesar, Rev Shannon in Williams Night of the Iguana and Lenny in Pinter's The Homecoming (all for papermoon). He was Rev Schmidt in Channel ten's Emma, Queen of the South Seas and played Kevin Plummer in Simon Weaving's The Competition. At the CAT awards 2016 he was awarded Best Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of the older Casanova in Casanova. In the Cat awards for 2017 his production of Goldsmith's She Stoops to Conquer was nominated in ten categories including best director. He was recently seen as Henry in Everyman's production of Play On at the Q theatre, Hercule Poirot in Radio on Repertory Lane at Canberra Repertory and as the Foreman in 12 Angry Men at the Q Theatre. Last year he played Robert in the Foxtel series Fighting Season and directed the papermoon production of Alma de Groen's Wicked Sisters.
