It is the late 19th Century in New York. Interest in the newly invented electric light bulb is growing amongst the educated upper-classes. Meanwhile, a pioneer in medical innovations, Dr Givings, has been working on his own electrical device. He aims to treat women suffering from hysteria, but when one of his patients emerges from an appointment glowing and eager to return, all involved stand to realize far more than the wonders of electricity.
