Hyperspace

7 Mar 2019 to 9 Mar 2019

HYPERSPACE
HYPERSPACE is the third in a series of works from James Batchelor and his collaborators that grew from a unique opportunity to be part of a scientific expedition to study sub-Antarctic islands in 2016.

From the human body to the cosmos, HYPERSPACE is an inquiry into the metrics we use to measure the deep unknowns of the universe. It proposes a study of the human body seen through the prism of cosmology, a mapping of the universe within and around it. The interior and exterior landscapes of the body are deconstructed, producing a self-critique of the masculine body and its dominance in space exploration. In HYPERSPACE, the fleshy material of the body bends, stretches and is reconfigured as alien transmutation, appearing simultaneously colossal and microscopic.

PHENO
Pheno (pronounced fee-no) released her debut EP Dragon Year in May 2017 as part of VIVID festival and was lauded by Happy Mag as “…giving Australia the art-pop injection it deserves, and… “attractive, bold pop”. Born in Canberra, Pheno (aka Jess Green) returned to make the ACT her home in 2016 after many years working in Sydney and on the national scene as a freelance musician.

Her live show features scorching electric guitar, blissful vocals, and a colourful world of synths and samples. She brings to the stage her unique Art-Pop, with a demented jazz bent, and weaves stories of life -just beginning, from under the sea and calling to other worlds.

REUBEN INGALL
Reuben Ingall grew up in Canberra, and studied computer music and interactive digital media at the Centre for New Media Arts at The Australian National University. He makes music with home-made software patches, algorithmically mangling his guitar and voice with found sound and field recordings.

His other projects include the monthly experimental music night Soundscapes, the radio program Subsequence, mixing and mastering local bands, and a mashup-DJ act. He has worked on music for installations, theatre, e-publications, film, and dance.
