Tim Hansen is a composer, music director and songwriter known for blending cabaret and theatrical idioms with contemporary concert music. His music is an expression of his lifelong fascination with storytelling, be they grim fairy tales, ancient myths, or the simple, domestic everyday stories of the lives of those around him. His work draws from a dark but gleeful palette inspired by sources as diverse as Weimar cabaret, circus music, 20th century modernism, music theatre and post-minimalism.

An enthusiastic and charismatic educator, Tim has created two online lessons for TED on music. He is currently composer in residence at Santa Sabina College and is engaged with Musica Viva as part of the 'Musician in the Classroom' program. He is also a major contributor to Soundfly, a US-based website filled with lessons and dedicated to the idea that anyone can be a musician.

Tim is a co-founding director of the W4 New Music collective based in New York, along with his co-directors Matt Frey, Molly Herron and Ruben Naeff. The collective combines the individual voices of each composer and other artists to create cohesive programs of new music, and has included an oratorio based on Moby Dick performed by Contemporaneous and presented by New York's MATA festival; and Cellophilia, which featured contemporary works entirely for 'cello and which was remounted as part of Fast Forward Austin festival in Austin Texas.

Residency credits include being a composition fellow at the Bang on a Can Summer Institute, the Norfolk Contemporary Music Festival and twice artist-in-residence at Hill End. In addition to being short listed for the APRA Professional Development award in 2010 and 2013, Tim has been awarded the Frank Ponton Memorial Prize, the Darwin International Guitar Festival Composition Prize and an ArtStart Grant from the Australia Council for the Arts. He also co-founded the ExhAust Australian music ensemble in New York, a group dedicated to presenting the work of Australian artists in New York City.

Tim has worked extensively with music ensembles, cabaret groups and theatre companies around Australia and in the USA such as Everyman Theatre, Synergy Percussion, Contemporaneous, JACK quartet, Cadillac Moon Ensemble, and TRANSIT ensemble. He also regularly works with young people in the arts, and has worked with Canberra Youth Theatre, Australian Theatre for Young People and Shopfront Youth Theatre in Australia and the Lucy Moses School, Camp Broadway and The New Group in New York.

Tim is also a total nerd and would spend his life as a student if he could. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Theatre & Media)(Honours) from Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, a Bachelor of Music (Composition) from the Australian National University in Canberra, and a Master of Music Theory and Composition from New York University. His teachers include Michael Gordon, Julia Wolfe, Martin Bresnick, Lisa Moore, David Lang, Jim Cotter, Larry Sitsky and Toby Twining.

Will has been performing in Canberra since 1997 and has over 30 assorted plays,

musicals, dance productions and short films under his belt. He has previously worked with Everyman Theatre, playing the role of Benny in their sold-out production of RENT, and also appearing in their productions of Home At The End and The Burning. Most recently he was seen in Jesus Christ Superstar at the AIS Arena. His favourite past roles include Corny Collins in Hairspray, Woof and Hud in two separate productions of HAIR, Rod in Avenue Q, Peter in Jesus Christ Superstar, Patsy in Monty Python’s Spamalot and Young Pink in Pink Floyd’s The Wall. He is very excited and thankful to be working with the talented team at Everyman Theatre once again and is glad to be finally singing Sondheim here in Canberra.

Whilst this is Helen’s first appearance on the Q stage she has performed with Everyman Theatre in a number of productions including Shakespeare’s Richard III as Queen Elizabeth and featured in plays The Ides of March and Home at the End both written by Canberra playwright Duncan Ley.

Helen was last seen performing at Canberra Repertory in Arcadia directed by Aarne Neeme, before that was Speaking in Tongues and previous to that was playing the ‘port­swilling, cake­stuffing ‘mother­we­all-love­to­hate’ Mrs Bennet in Pride and Prejudice.

Other REP productions include An Ideal Husband (Mabel), Amadeus (Constanza), Cabaret (Lulu), A Spring Song (Kerry), Old Time Music Hall, Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Madame de Tourvel), Jazz Garters and in the Canberra Critics Circle 2011 awarded production of The Pig Iron People written by John Doyle.

She has also donned the feathers and sequins in cabaret show Marilyn at Teatro Vivaldi. After gaining a B.A. in Musical Theatre at WAAPA in 1993, Helen spent ten years performing professionally as a cabaret artist at His Majesty’s Theatre in Perth. Productions included the works of Kurt Weill, Sondheim, Rogers and Hart/Hammerstein, Berlin, Kander and Ebb and Cole Porter. She has also co­written and performed in corporate/touring cabaret shows Song Soup, Just Desserts and Ladies Who Lunch, not to mention playing a dead body in the ABC mini­series Shark Net!

It has been a while between Musical drinks shall we say but Helen loves this musical so very much (having performed in Company in her final year at WAAPA) that when the opportunity came to ‘do it again’ she had to say yes, yes, YES!

Company marks the 41st stage production with which Max has been involved since he began in Canberra in 2001, making his debut as the voice of Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors. In those 14 years he has had the joy of playing many roles with almost all of Canberra's theatre companies. Favourites include Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar, The Artilleryman in Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, Dave Bukatinski in The Full Monty, King Arthur in Spamalot, Edna Turnblad in Hairspray, Captain EJ Smith in Titanic, as well as a range of roles in both Pink Floyd's The Wall and The Who's Tommy. He will next be seen Musical Directing his band and cast in Canberra Philo’s production of Rock of Ages in March 2016.

In his professional career Max has performed for over 1 million people as a science communicator with Questacon. He has enjoyed communicating science so much that he decided to make the insane decision to return to the ANU where he is in his first year of a BSc majoring in Physics.

When not performing at the theatre or performing at work, he recreates by performing with his band, AMAX. He and his partner in crime, Amy Dunham, mix their eclectic backgrounds in jazz-metal and folk-pop with their ridiculous life experiences to bare-facedly harmonise about love, lust and tea time.

His deepest thanks go to Everyman for giving him an opportunity to perform some Sondheim. His love and gratitude go out to his Emma and their little Dude for being supportive of him despite all the insanity. Finally, he would like to thank you, the audience, for supporting the arts. Having outnumbered his audience in a one-man show, he appreciates each and every one of you. 

Riley Bell has an incredibly long resume of theatrical productions and it would be tedious to list them all here – however he will because the producer asked him to. He did his first show at the age of 3 in Baby Macbeth, which critics called "hauntingly adorable".

In recent years he has appeared onstage here at The Q in The Mousetrap, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Imaginary Invalid all directed by Jordan Best. This year he has appeared in Casanova and Much Ado About Nothing at Canberra REP.

In his other life as a stand up comic he works with fellow Canberra comedian Joshua Glass and has performed at the Melbourne Comedy Festival in both 2014 and 2015.

He will do his last show at the age of 121 in a production of the art-house piece Watch A Man Die Live Onstage. This is his first show with Everyman Theatre, his first musical and his seventeenth attempt at parental approval.

Karen Vickery graduated from NIDA in Acting in 1983.  Since then, she has performed in all media and for major companies including Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir, commercial theatre, ABC TV and Radio dramas, and commercial television.  Highlights include Nicholas Nickleby and All My Sons with Sydney Theatre Company directed by the late Richard Wherrett & John Gaden, and Gale Edwards, respectively.  The professional acting company attached to NIDA (NIDA Company) provided a series of roles in new Australian works including The Hollow Man by Nicholas Parsons directed by John Clark.  A cameo role in Gillian Armstrong’s Oscar and Lucinda filmed in Elizabeth Bay House was a highlight.  Karen worked as a lecturer in History of Theatre, Film and Applied Arts at NIDA from 1996.  She remained at NIDA until the end of 2011, after becoming Head of Performance Practices in 2006. Karen directed The Shifting Heart, Summer Shadows, Our Country’s Good, The Seagull, Icecream, and Playing with Fire for NIDA.

Since arriving in Canberra, Karen has played M’Lynn in Canberra REP’s production of Steel Magnolias, and Violet Weston in Free Rain’s August: Osage County.  Karen was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for both performances in the 2014 Canberra Area Theatre Awards and was winner of the award for Violet Weston.  In 2015, Karen played Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest for Canberra REP.

Karen is a tutor in acting at Canberra Youth Theatre and was nominated for a CAT Award for Best Director for her direction of CYT Senior Ensemble in David Ives’ All in the Timing as part of Studio Underground in 2014. 

Karen is the Director of Learning and Visitor Experience at the National Portrait Gallery.  Karen’s passion for communication and education at the gallery is fuelled by her ongoing work as an arts educator and actor in Canberra.

Amy has been involved in an odd fifty productions since 1997, when she debuted in the title role of Annie for Alpha Theatre. Favourite roles over the years have included Holly in The Wedding Singer (Canberra Area Theatre award (CAT) win) and Christmas Eve in Avenue Q (CAT nom) for SUPA, Ado Annie in Oklahoma (CAT win) and Anita in West Side Story for Free Rain Theatre, Penny Pingleton in Hairspray and the puppeteer of Audrey Two in her second time performing in Little Shop Of Horrors for Canberra Philharmonic Society. Prior to playing Audrey 2, she played Audrey in the 2005 Little Shop of Horrors for Phoenix, earning a CAT nomination. Her last musical was High Fidelity for Phoenix Players where she played Liz.

As an 'Everywoman' Amy performed in GOD; the four hander Pool (No Water); as Madeline Schiller in The Burning and as six year old Molly (puppetry) in Home at The End all for Everyman Theatre. Other straight theatre credits include Annelle in Canberra Repertory’s Steel Magnolias (CAT nom) and Henriette in their recent production of Casanova.

Amy's professional credits includes performances as one of four performers in I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change for NIDA (touring), originating the role of Darya for Heart of a Dog at The Street Theatre and supported by the Australia Council; Letters of 2015 performed at Sandgate in Brisbane and commercials for Lifeline and Supabarn Warehouse. On the horizon is playing Goldilocks for Centrepiece Theatre’s Goldilocks and the Three Bears at The Q in January.

By day Amy is an actress for the Starlight Children's Foundation and is studying to be a high school/college drama teacher. She is a musician/songwriter for the acoustic duo AMAX with fellow cast mate Max Gambale.
