Miss Westralia - The incredible true story of Australia’s first international beauty queen and trailblazing feminist will come to life in regional WA in July 2021. Based on the life of a unknown national heroine, Miss Westralia showcases the story of real life Geraldton girl Beryl Mills, the very first Miss Australia. Set in 1926, the entertaining musical charts Beryl’s journey from a Geraldton sheep station to America where she embarks on her promotional tour as the “ideal” Australian woman. Miss Westralia is a loving tribute to history, with a contemporary lens and wit, all with stunning songs that will have your toes tapping. Following a successful development season at The Blue Room Theatre in Perth in 2019, the show generated a great deal of buzz in Geraldton and beyond, and has been snapped up by regional venues looking for a show with wide appeal and a positive message. This uplifting and funny musical comedy explores the strong parallels between past and present, commenting on contemporary issues of feminism while telling a rollicking true story. The touring production features a professional cast, including Amy Fortnum in the main role of Beryl, and Morgan Cowling, who has just finished touring with The Phantom of the Opera across America.
