Everyman Theatre is proud to bring back one of off-Broadway’s most successful musicals:
The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!)
Written by Eric Rockwell and Joanne Bogart, the show is a clever and witty homage to five of the world’s most well-known and prolific musical theatre composers. Our ingénue, June, cannot pay her rent, and must do so to avoid the clutches of the evil landlord, Jitter. Will her handsome and hapless boyfriend, Willy, come to her rescue? Or will the advice of her best friend, Abby, help her to overcome the problem herself?
This timeless story becomes the plot for five musicals, each written in the style of a different composer:
Rodgers & Hammerstein – (Corn!) in which musicals such as Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music and The King and I are lovingly lampooned.
Stephen Sondheim – (A Little Complex) where the sophisticated and sometimes atonal music of Sweeney Todd, Company and Into the Woods get the comic treatment.
Jerry Herman – (Dear Abby!) the undisputed king of the show tune is parodied with references to Mame, Hello Dolly! and La Cage Aux Folles.
Andrew Lloyd Webber – (Aspects of Junita) the most commercially successful composer ever is in the sights of our team as we reference Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, and of course, The Phantom of the Opera.
Kander & Ebb – (Speakeasy) Set in a cabaret in Chicago, nothing is sacred, especially where Liza Minnelli is concerned.
Now, just like that other oft repeated musical about sad people during the French revolution, we're bringing it back to delight audiences once again!
Come and see the show that had audiences clamouring for tickets in 2009 and 2010, with two sold-out seasons!
